People in Need, o. p. s.

We support the organisation People in Need in projects focused on education and health for disadvantaged groups.

As an organisation with nationwide operations, People in Need is represented in areas where we support local projects. We consider it beneficial for individual organisations to be aware of each other and for their activities to be able to build seamlessly upon one another. Therefore, starting from January, we are initiating joint meetings regarding implemented projects, where we plan further collaboration based on the evaluation of the past year.

Retroscholarships

The Retrostipendia project provides motivational scholarships to young people who find themselves in various difficult situations and face social disadvantage. Nonetheless, they find determination, will, and a diligent approach to their studies – whether in vocational or non-vocational fields, technical schools, or other secondary schools. Furthermore, each supported student works closely with a local career advisor from the organisation People in Need.

The success of the project is best evidenced by the fact that some supported students go on to higher education. Thanks to the support of NFMD, it will also be possible to increase these motivational scholarships.

Reproductive health of girls and women

The Reproductive Health Project for Girls and Women aims to raise awareness among women and girls from low-income families about their health and to enable them to access suitable menstrual and contraceptive products. This project was created based on findings directly from the field and insights from the Retrostipendia program. It has been shown that many young girls and women prematurely discontinue their studies due to unplanned pregnancies and a lack of information critical for healthy living.

Therefore, the program helps them not only gain the necessary knowledge but also to seek out and secure gynecological care. It guides them towards planned parenthood and supports their free decision-making. Another important topic is menstrual poverty and the provision of hygiene products for female students from underprivileged families. The project also advocates for the introduction of free contraception for disadvantaged girls and women. Although the topic of menstrual poverty is still not widely accepted in society, thanks to this work, it has been possible to at least partially break the taboo.
