Premysl Pitter and Olga Fierzová - A Dream of Film and a Return to the Roots
The story of humanism that transcends generations. We still want to support the creation of a feature film about Přemysl Pittro and Olga Fierzová based on the screenplay by Pavel Kosatík. An added value is the memories of the personalities who carried their legacy forward and reminded us of the importance and meaning of helping in every era.
This film is still in the preparation phase. We believe that Pavel Kosatík, despite his considerable work commitments, will find the time to complete the script. We consider this endeavour a significant continuation of the book “Alone Against Evil: The Life of Přemysl Pitt (1895–1976)” by the same author.
We would very much like the film about one of the most significant Czechs in our history and his close collaborator in the selfless effort to help children to enrich us all one day, and we continue to count on support for its realisation.
Personal bond and the strength of memories
I would like to share a bit about the significance that Přemysl Pitter and Olga Fierzová had and still have for me. While creating the brochure about NFMD, a lovely thing happened. To publish a photograph of Přemysl Pitter and Olga Fierzová, we asked the owner of the reproduction rights, the Archive of Přemysl Pitter and Olga Fierzová, which is part of the National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius, for permission. Memories of the time nearly a quarter of a century ago, when I worked at the Přemysl Pitter Shelter for Children, reminded me of everything we shared back then. And suddenly it's here again, and it is once more a great honour for me to participate in the various events they organise.
Meetings that bind
Another memory concerned MUDr. Milena Černá, the long-serving director of the Good Will Committee – Olga Havlová Foundation. When I first visited her, she sternly told me that she is very cautious when she sees the name Přemysl Pitt in the title, as she is sensitive to its misuse. I was glad that after a few sentences she believed that in this regard we were on the same page. There were many conversations that we held together. They filled me with pride, joy, and gave me strength.
And for the third time. On the desk in the modest cellar of the Přemysl Pitt Shelter for Children, I had a plaster cast of the bust of Přemysl Pitt. It was donated to us by the academic sculptors of the Femina association. The original was created by these ladies specifically for the National Museum and the J. A. Comenius Library and the Přemysl Pitt and Olga Fierz Archive. I often caught myself back then gazing at it while thinking and subsequently having a fictional dialogue with it, asking questions and recalling his determination, courage, and loyalty in different times and places where he, along with Olga Fierzová and others, were active. And today we have that beautiful photograph of Přemysl Pitt and Olga Fierzová smiling as they walk along the path… What more could one wish for.
